In Amharic, ሸክላ (shekla) means clay, but it also refers to objects made from it, like pottery, pots, and in the context of food, the special clay pot used for Ethiopian dishes like Shekla Tibs.
What started as a slightly obsessive hobby has quickly grown into a love for creating thoughtful, handmade home essentials to bring warmth and colour to your living spaces.
This journey began with a simple vision of blending Ethiopian influenced design with a focus on functional, everyday pieces. Ensuring that each piece not only serves a purpose but adds personality to your space.
Each piece from Shekla Studios is handcrafted by me over the course of several weeks, from throwing on the wheel, to trimming, glazing, and firing, before it’s finally ready to find its new home. No two pieces are exactly alike, and that’s part of what makes them so special.
